Ceramics Workshop: Beyond Standard Methods 

Thursdays, Oct 31 – Dec 19  2019

This workshop is for students who have some basic ceramics experience and is an opportunity to further explore a wide variety of techniques in creating ceramic work.

The emphasis of the workshop is to learn more about sculptural language and form and apply it in your own work. It will dive into technical and artistic issues of relief sculpture, free standing sculpture, mixed media, monumental- and personal sculpture and will explore representational, abstract and conceptual forms of expressions.

This workshop is both theoretical and practical in nature and participants will be expected to work independently and be self motivated.

Included with Workshop Fee: 

  • First 25 lbs. bag of clay

  • Big assortment of glazes

  • Bisque- and glaze firings

Please bring the following to the first day of instruction:

(These are the materials needed for basic ceramic work)

Required Material List: 

  • Personal sculpting tools (small selection of tools will be made available in class)

  • Plastic bucket (helps with carrying tools, Small round sponge

  • Newspaper

  • Rags (to moisten and cover work at end of sculpting sessions)

  • Trash bag / plastic wrap to cover work

Recommended Material list:

  • Apron to protect clothing from clay

  • Bamboo or metal shish kabob sticks

  • Drawing paper and drawing materials (for initial sketching and planning stage)

Additional Costs:

  • Unique glazes (basic selection of glazes is included in class fee)

  • Additional clay can be purchased in class (25lbs. bag of  clay $10) first bag is included
